On the back of all baby & most children and adult clothing items there will be an iron on backing to prevent the stitches from being itchy. As the item is washed, this backing may start to come off. You have two options - re-iron it back on, or remove it. After several washes the threads should be soft enough to not be irritating!

If you notice any purple markings on items - it's from my water soluble marker I use to mark the placement. I always remove these but sometimes they have a tendency to reappear! They will disappear with a little water or with washing.
